Saratoga CERT will have a table staff by volunteers at the Festival
The modern version of the Blossom Festival includes music of the 40-50’s; vintage cars, farm motors; craftspeople; poetry reading; vendors; community organizations; displays of early day Saratoga history; lectures and more! Food trucks will provide tasty snacks! Last year about 4000 people attended this one day event. The outdoor event is held when the Heritage orchard is blossoming in memory of the original Blossom Festivals when the valley was filled with orchards.
History of the Event
The Blossom Festival originated in 1900 as a celebration of the drought ending and a desire to share with neighbors and friends the beauty of the Saratoga orchards in bloom. At that time the entire Santa Clara Valley was filled with orchards and the sight was amazing. The Festival ran for 40 years with each year getting bigger. Some times the governor and even the vice president would attend with as many as 20,000 people from around the Bay Area coming to see the blooming orchards. The event would take place all day with athletic events, music, food, and of course, a drive through the blossoming orchards. The San Francisco Symphony came one year and elaborate ballets, choral productions were featured each year.
The mission of the Blossom Festival is to preserve the memory of agricultural heritage and the unique qualities of Saratoga living for the education and enjoyment of the community. Thank you for joining us in this mission.
