CERT Refresher #4 – Damage Assessment
June 13 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Details: This CERT Refresher will focus on the CERT members knowledge of conducting basic building damage assessment and their ability to communicate that damage to the appropriate local agency. We will review the Damage Assessment chapter of the CERT training guide and the Field Operations Guide (FOG) given by a Santa Clara County Fire Department Instructor.
Damage assessment topics covered include gathering and evaluating general facts including: time of event, day of the week, time of year, construction type/terrain, occupancy type, weather conditions and other hazards. This information should help the CERT member determine if the damage is classified as:
- Damage is light
- Damage is moderate
- Damage is heavy
Damage assessment and size-up of a building, using the CERT 9-step continual model, is the first of (3) separate operational objectives. Damage assesment/size-up may be followed by search operations, or locating victims and documenting findings, which are always limited to lightly or moderately damaged structures. And if rescue, or extricating victims is necessary and safe for CERT’s to attempt, would be the final stage of this operational process.
For additional information please contact your CERT Leadership or visit the Santa Clara County Fire Department web site at: www.SCCFD.org
Important: Please bring your CERT Identification Badge/Card, All Personal Protective Equipment (backpack), and a flashlight. You must be a CERT Volunteer with one of the Cities or Towns in County Fire Jurisdiction to attend the CERT Refresher Class.
